    Colin Kaepernick KAPsi 02

There comes a time in a person’s life where they’ve had enough.  Whether it’s being financially unstable or being in an unstable and unhealthy relationship, it’s a point that one reaches where a fork in the road comes and they take the road marked ‘Exit.’

Colin Kaepernick finally reached his fork in the road.

If you didn’t know who Colin Kaepernick was, you probably do now.  He’s a member of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc.; one of the 5 historically Black Greek-letter fraternities within the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and a professional athlete who plays for a team within one of the four primary sports leagues in America: The NFL®.

This league is so gargantuan in America that its flagship championship game is the 4th largest sporting event ever watched in world history.  The National Football League, the league’s official name, has so much power and wealth that it even fought off facts of what 200 lb – 400 lb men colliding with one another at great speeds and with devastating force did and does to its players, particular their brains.  They even made a movie about it.

The NFL®, in essence, did the same thing that the tobacco industry did when it came to what tobacco did and does to its customers(CLICK HERE to Read More…).

Greek-Life is a magical world where the strength of one’s courage and loyalty are tested; where strong minds and quick wits can be the difference between staying on the path that leads through the burning sands, or being swallowed up by the at-times raging fire along the way.  And for those who can harness these character traits; wielding the immeasurable fortitude of their ancestors to withstand the barrage of unforeseen trials and tribulations, from that, families and life-long bonds are forged, unknowns become legends, and new generations of leaders are repeatedly unveiled.

And it is almost all captured through digital snapshots in time.

The easy accessibility of quick, crisp photos nowadays through smartphones and mobile apps allows us to capture moments that would previously have gone unnoticed without planning and hiring a professional photographer.  And, if you didn’t know, there is absolutely nothing like capturing Greek-Life moments, especially when the journey of the forging of a life-long bond has reached fever pitch right there in front of you at a Pro(bate) Show.  The raw passion and emotion.  The fire in the eyes of those who will…(Click Here to Read More…)

    COVER PHOTO 2

Today, my company was suppose to put out a press release about how we are helping aspiring writers, who are members of an eligible Greek-letter organization, to expand their reader base by joining forces with the National Greek Awards™.  I was really looking forward to sharing that with all of my Greek-Life friends and colleagues.  Sadly, a temporary cloud decided to rear its ugly, but not unfamiliar head, and I felt it necessary to first shine a light on and through that darkness.

I cannot remember their name, but there was a comedian who said that yes, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was all about non-violence, but if you drove down any street named after him, there would definitely be some violence going on.

Unfortunately, it seems the same goes for racism on any MLK Day.

I’ve noticed over the years how racism seems to get turned up on the day of one of the most non-violent, prominent figures in American history.  It is as though the privileged feel attacked when they are reminded of the atrocities of slavery, genocide, and oppression done by their ancestors and the American economic, political, judicial, and ‘law enforcement’ systems that both directly and indirectly perpetuate those atrocities to this day.  And those of the privileged who are fueled to the fullest by the depths of bigotry and misdirected rage seem to use…(CLICK HERE to Read More…).

    Leonardo DiCaprio 005 (The Revenant)

Screenshot from 20th Century Fox’s award-winning movie “The Revenant,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio

I saw The Revenant this week.  Allow me to break this down for you directly and swiftly:

    1. Leonardo DiCaprio is one of probably the ‘Top 10 Best Actors’ to ever live, and I do NOT say that lightly.  Maybe you all didn’t hear me…
    2. Leonardo DiCaprio is one of probably the ‘Top 10 Best Actors’ to EVER live.
    3. Initially, I thought he’d win an Oscar® for this role, until I saw the Danish Girl previews, then I thought to myself: “Nope.  Leo’s gonna lose another one.  They usually give it to someone who they feel steps completely outside of what they consider to be their ‘comfort zone’ and with whom they severely empathize as that character. A transgender woman?  Yeah, they’ll probably screw Leo AGAIN this year.”
    4. I told that to my good man Jamole Callahan, a fantastic child welfare/foster care youth advocate and motivational speaker, after he said that Leo might win what I call his ‘Eleanor‘ this year; a fitting name, seeing as though Leo has done everything else to win an Oscar® except steal it.
    5. I am super busy, but Leonardo DiCaprio is my favorite actor and I’d been thinking about Jamole and my conversation, so I decided to watch The Revenant.

    I now believe this is Leo’s year…finally.

    Beernie Sanders on Socialism

If you don’t know the non-Wikipedia, non-right-wing-propaganda-demonization definition of the word “Socialism,” then I suggest you drink a tall glass of shut the heck up, please.

    Too harsh?

Forgive me, but I have an extremely high level of disdain for ignorance, especially when it’s purposeful.  I find that purposeful ignorance exudes cowardice, and when I look at the right-wing base, all I see is cowardice.

Anyone who is willing to just take what someone says without even thinking about researching it, let alone actually doing it, all because it elicits a strong emotional response, is an intellectual coward.  In my opinion, this is the right-wing base.  Their “leadership” publicly lies on a level I haven’t seen since the Bush 43 years, and their base just sucks it up as if it’s truth.  Then they directly contract media propaganda machines like Fox “News” to reinforce the lies through repetition for weeks and months, but with added key buzzwords:

    • Socialism
    • “Unfettered” Capitalism
    • Oligarchy
    • Communism

These particular buzzwords are specifically used to evoke a particular emotional response from their massively-ill-informed base.  Democratic socialism is calculatingly-demonized while unfettered capitalism is pushed by the rich and powerful as the ‘gold standard’ of running a country economically.  So, for the easily manipulated, let’s discuss the actual definition of all of these terms right now(CLICK HERE to Read More…).

    Racism 010

The Students spoke, and the University listened.  University of Missouri President Tim Wolfe has now resigned.

This resignation comes after several racially-charged incidents occurred at the university.  Just recently in September, the president of the MSA spoke on his Facebook® page about how he was called racial slurs while all he was doing was walking across campus.

I really just want to know why my simple existence is such a threat to society,” said Peyton Head, president of the Missouri Students Association and member of Alpha Phi Alpha® Fraternity, Inc., the first historically black collegiate social Greek-letter organization.

Well Mr. Head, the state of Missouri has a well known history of racism, so your simple existence being such a threat has a very simple answer.

    Bred racism.

This history was seemingly solidified by what occurred at the beginning of the following month when Legion of Black Collegians members were called the N-word while rehearsing for the school’s yearly homecoming festivities.

    Think that was bad?

Floyd Mayweather (The Best Fighter Ever)

I have to completely agree with Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

    He’s the best fighter, ever.

Now, I’m a huge Floyd Mayweather, Jr. fan.  I don’t hide that at all.  However, I’m a much bigger fan of the truth, and whether his opponents were bigger or smaller, faster or slower, younger or older, more experienced or less experienced, champions or contenders, he not only beat them, but he beat them with an almost +30% average connect percentage.

    That’s unprecedented truth.

Half the time, after the fight, he didn’t even look like he’d just been in a professional boxing match!  That’s because, simply put, he was better than everyone who entered the ring to fight him, period.  He was so much better to where out of 69 judges’ scorecards, he only ever lost on one (1).

    That’s more unprecedented truth.

Look at his ‘loss, draw, no contest’ record in comparison to these current and future Hall of Famers:

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. – 0 losses, 0 draws, 0 no contests

    Lessig-Sanders 002

This past Tuesday was the first Democratic Party Candidate ‘Fight Night’ of the 2016 Presidential campaign season, and did you notice something really obvious?  Presidential Candidate Larry “The Professor” Lessig wasn’t in the ring.

    Wait, you didn’t notice that?

Oh, it was probably because you didn’t know who he was or that he was even running, you know, since his name was taken off of the fight undercard; the list of candidates for pollsters to give to the people they were polling around the country.

That was definitely not by accident.

Since the controversial and political-campaign-changing Citizens United ruling, money has increasingly become the primary determining factor politically of which direction to go and what corporate decisions will and won’t be made.  Although he fit every criteria that was required of him to be included, Lessig was excluded from the Democratic Presidential Debate by the very entity that made the rules.

    CNN®.

That decision to keep the Harvard Professor from the debate seems to have been a…(CLICK HERE to Read More…).

    Tamir Rice

*READ THE UPDATE TO THIS STORY HERE*

On the same day of the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Million Man March, the 2-second killing of a 12-year-young black boy by a white police officer is deemed “reasonable.”

How long?  Too long.  How many?  Too many.  On Saturday, October 10, 2015, reports from retired FBI agent Kimberly Crawford and Denver prosecutor Lamar Sims, two ‘use-of-force’ experts, stated that, although tragic, the shooting of Tamir Rice, in essence, made sense.

There can be no doubt that Rice’s death was tragic and, indeed, when one considers his age, heartbreaking.  However, I conclude that Officer Loehmann’s belief that Rice posed a threat of serious physical harm or death was objectively reasonable as was his response to that perceived threat,” stated Sims.

    Objectively reasonable?

As an at-risk youth advocate who is trying to positively change the path of so many boys of color within struggling communities, what do I say to this?  How can I change their lives if they have no life left within their bodies due to “objectively reasonable” death by a white cop at as young as age 12, in a park, next to a picnic table?  If that doesn’t show you the state of America regarding race relations and the justice system, then what will?

Just look at the older white woman in the…(CLICK HERE to Read More…).

    Fake Prescription Death Video

    Saddened.  Torn.  Exhausted.  Simply exhausted.

*Sigh.  A big sigh seems to be all that I can muster nowadays.  How do we even feel about situations like this anymore?  Can we even feel at all?

From what was reported yesterday by the Baltimore Sun, the police stated that the suspect, Keith McLeod, “…was shot to death by a Baltimore County police officer in Reisterstown Wednesday after trying to pass off a fake prescription at a pharmacy, then running from the officer…

In the video above, the officer looks as though he’s defending himself, and he definitely has that lawful right to do so not just as an officer, but as a citizen of the United States of America, if he in fact is one.  However, to me the question is not whether or not one has a right to self-defense, but more about what type of defense is used when exercising that right?

Gun deaths in this country have become so normal to where onset numbness has begun even in the individuals who have the biggest hearts.  Sadly, an unfortunate amount of these gun deaths are by(CLICK HERE to Read More…).
