    2020 Winner:

    Stone Brickhouse

CLEVELAND, OH – August 28, 2020 – The National Greek Awards™ hosted its annual #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ Photo Contest, and this year’s contest was one for the history books, just not for the reason you might think.

Stone Brickhouse; 2020 #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ WINNER, member of Alpha Phi Alpha® Fraternity, Inc., and graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University.

Things have been rough for graduates this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has not only affected large gatherings such as graduations, but it has also affected the current and future economic outlook.

Because of this, this year the GASA partnered with Tim Carthon’s F.I.T.E. Plan™ Business Academy to give one lucky winner an entire year of ‘Level 3’ membership absolutely free.

And this year’s winner, by only a five-vote margin, was Stone Brickhouse, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. from Virginia Commonwealth University.

This 2020 competition had a three-piece unique combination that none of the previous contests had:

1.) It was the first time the contest was held on the GASA website and not their social media pages.

2.) The first time GASA partnered with and offered FP business academy membership as the grand prize.

3.) It happened during a worldwide pandemic.

Kory Calhoun; 2020 #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ Runner-Up (2nd Place Winner), member of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc., and graduate of North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University.

The biggest lesson that I learned while in college is that every problem is temporary and that time will come to pass,” says Stone Brickhouse, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha® Fraternity, Inc. and the 2020 #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ Photo Contest winner.

This pandemic is like nothing seen since the 1918 Spanish Flu. And, although it is currently ravaging the world’s population, primarily in the United States of America and Brazil, as Mr. Brickhouse said, this too will come to pass.

Diamond Smith; 2020 #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ 3rd Place Winner, member of Zeta Phi Beta® Sorority, Inc., and graduate of the University of Kentucky.

2020 may turn out to be one of the worst years in American history, but the GASA is not letting it take 2020 graduates’ joy from them, because they definitely earned that joy.

    2019 Winner:

    Bea Dubois

CLEVELAND, OH – June 12, 2019 – The National Greek Awards™ hosted its annual #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ Photo Contest, which features members of multiple Greek-letter organizations who have graduated from college this fiscal year.  In this 2019 competition, it again made contest history.

Bea Dubois; 2019 #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ WINNER, member of Sigma Gamma Rho® Sorority, Inc., and graduate of Liberty University.

Normally the contest starts off slow with voting.  This year, the votes shot out the gate, and that was primarily due to the ferocious competitive nature of the contestants.  Never before has the competition had as many lead changes. However, that wasn’t even close to the biggest piece of contest news.

This 2019 competition had close to 50% more votes than the previous year, and even that didn’t compare to the voting percentages of the contestants themselves. This year’s contest winner garnered over 90% more votes than her predecessor and is not only the first person to reach more than 1,000 votes, but she also accumulated more votes than anyone in the history of the competition.

Kory Calhoun; 2019 #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ Runner-Up (2nd Place Winner), member of Alpha Phi Alpha® Fraternity, Inc., and graduate of University of Mississippi.

I am beyond humbled and honored to win the 2019 National Greek Awards™ #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™. I first heard about the contest in 2017 when my soror Amanda competed and won. So when it was my turn to graduate, I knew I had to sign up,” says Bea Dubois, a member of Sigma Gamma Rho® Sorority, Inc. and the 2019 #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ Photo Contest winner.

She continued, “Greeks are always shown in a negative light so I asked my friend to take my graduation photos with my Greek stole. I was surprised to know that I received over 1,050 votes as I was only expecting a few hundred. The votes came in slowly but I’m glad that everything worked out in the end. I am thankful to be a part of an amazing sorority and to have an amazing circle of friends, family, classmates, fellow Greeks who helped me win.”

    An amazing circle indeed.

It was such a rush watching this year’s contest. I’d never seen two front-runners going so hard for their votes. It was amazing and awe-inspiring,” said National Greek Awards™ Founder and Executive Director Tim Carthon, “In the end, out of thousands of votes, Ms. Dubois literally won by only 12 votes. By far, that’s the closest contest win we’ve ever had. It was an absolutely fantastic and positive battle. A big shout out and thank you to our contest sponsor SBIWinners.com.”

Bethany White; 2019 #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ 3rd Place Winner, member of Alpha Kappa Alpha® Sorority, Inc., and graduate of North Carolina Central University.

It was definitely a battle for the contest ages.  In the end, the wins that mattered most for our 1st-Place Finisher were her educational and career wins. Ms. Dubois received her Masters of Public Health degree from Liberty University and plans on a career as a Cancer Research Scientist.

Selena Shannon; 2018 #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ 2nd place finisher, member of Alpha Kappa Alpha® Sorority, Inc., and graduate of Loyola Marymount University.

CLEVELAND, OH – August 04, 2018 – The National Greek Awards™ 2018 #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ was a fierce competition and had more votes cast in it than any previous Greek life photo contest they’ve ever had.  Greek-life graduates from all over the U.S. submitted the photos that they believed showcased them in the best, most positive and creative light.  And, in the end, it represented an amazing accomplishment: The earning of a higher education degree.

Like last year, this year’s GGFW Contest included over 100 contestant photos from multiple Greek-letter organizations and all walks of life from around the U.S.A.

This is one of the best things we do.  Greek-life has had such bad luck these past few years with negative PR that showcasing these members in the true light of Greek-letter organizations; education, community service, etc. has become an actual necessity,” said National Greek Awards™ Founder and Executive Director Tim Carthon, “Fortunately, we’ve been blessed with the task of leading the way in doing that, and we even had a little help with our new sponsor this year, SBIWinners.com, that sponsored the $100 shopping spree for us to give to the winner.

    001 - Sydney Brown - AKA

Sydney Brown; 2018 #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ 3rd place finisher, member of Alpha Kappa Alpha® Sorority, Inc., and graduate of Arizona State University.

Speaking of the winner, this year’s contest winner is a graduate of Northwestern State University.

I was pretty ecstatic to know that I had won the contest,” says Forrest Middlebrook, Jr., a member of Alpha Phi Alpha® Fraternity, Inc. and the 2018 Graduating Greeks Feature Week™ Contest winner, “It was exciting to know that I could potentially help others by talking about my college experience.  Thank you NGA!

He also has a very specific career goal that is actually in line with a subject matter that is currently resonating across the country and highlighted specifically in the political sphere.

My future career goals include obtaining a Master’s Degree in business and one day working in the healthcare field.  I want to be the person behind the scenes to make sure that everybody in America has the best healthcare that they can possibly afford.

Like we said, very specific.  Watch his story below.

CLEVELAND, OH – June 10, 2017 – The National Greek Awards™ 2017 #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ recently concluded, and it was the most successful one to date.  Greek-life graduates from all over the U.S. submitted some of the most telling and beautiful photos showcasing their pride in succeeding at one of the most difficult things to accomplish in an industrialized society: Earning a college degree.

This year’s GGFW Contest included over 100 contestant photos from several Greek-letter organizations from around the country.  Some of those images even include the babies of graduates, which they used as inspiration to make it through extraordinarily trying times during their undergraduate tenure.

    004 - Amanda Burgos - LPC

Amanda Burgos; 2017 #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ 2nd place finisher, member of Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc., and graduate of Saint Leo University.

I am always proud to see anyone accomplish something positive, especially something with a high level of difficulty that is also life-changing,” said National Greek Awards™ Founder and Executive Director Tim Carthon, “But to see my fellow Greek-life family members do so, especially with the reputation of Greek-letter organization members in general not being at the height at which I believe it deserves to be, that’s particularly satisfying.  And it definitely doesn’t hurt to win a nice $100 prize on the side, courtesy of Fiverr.com, for that accomplishment.

This year’s contest winner is a graduate of George Mason University and entered what may go down as one of the greatest Greek life photographs ever taken.  And, like so many higher education students, she also has an all-too familiar pre-undergraduate story to tell, as college is an expensive experience in America.

    097 - Je'nell Hubbard - AKA

Je’nell Hubbard; 2017 #GraduatingGreeks Feature Week™ 3rd place finisher, member of Alpha Kappa Alpha® Sorority, Inc., and graduate of Kennesaw State University.

Graduating college in my family in general was a big thing, not just in my immediate family,” says Amanda McLeroy, a member of Sigma Gamma Rho® Sorority, Inc. and the 2017 Graduating Greeks Feature Week™ Contest winner, “Though we didn’t have much, and I knew we didn’t have much, (my parents) still scraped together every last penny that they had to make sure that I was able to go to a college out of state because they knew that’s what I really wanted to do with myself.

However, the triumph (and some good fortune) through her struggle are part of the beauty of Amanda’s story.

When I won I was initially shocked because it was such a close race. I didn’t think I would win in all honesty,” she said, “So many great things had been happening to me over the course of the year, and I was overjoyed to add this to the list.”

Ms. McLeroy has a “pretty complex” future planned as well.  Watch her story below.

    Fiverr Sponsors Six (6) Workshops

CLEVELAND, OH – January 25, 2016 – The Greek All-Star™ Awards™ today announced that its Executive Director and Great Black Speakers Bureau member Tim Carthon and Fiverr® International, an online marketplace that offers creative and professional services starting at $5, have reached a short-term multi-city, multi-workshop sponsorship deal.

Over the next three (3) months, Fiverr® will be the Title Sponsor for six (6) of Carthon’s exclusive SBI Workshops™; a business infrastructure workshop specifically and uniquely designed to swiftly help aspiring inner-city entrepreneurs streamline the creation and building of their businesses.

Right now, the job market is very frustrating out there for so many people, so I’m pleased that Fiverr® has taken a vested, extended interest in inner-city communities through my Startup Business Infrastructure Workshop,” said Tim Carthon, GASA Executive Director and founder of the SBI Workshop™,  “This gives residents an opportunity to take control of their career destinies through not just building businesses from within their inner-city ranks, but doing so in the most convenient, most cost-effective manner.  Hey, who doesn’t have $5.00 to invest in completely and positively changing their future, right?

The $5.00 refers to the current sponsored cost to attend three (3) of Carthon’s previous four (4) Fiverr®-sponsored SBI Workshops™; an ode to his sponsor Fiverr’s starting cost of services at Fiverr.com, where virtually all of their 3M+ services start at just $5.00.

He also recently created a public school version of his exclusive workshop called Tim Carthon’s SBI Workshop™ for Students, which is to be primarily funded by the school district or the individual schools at which he speaks until sponsorship can be secured.

As far as the new, six-part extended education sponsorship deal with Carthon and Fiverr®, Carthon calls it his “C.O.E.T.” (Carthon Ohio Education Takeover), which he says will help him begin the indirect restructuring of the Ohio education system.

The first of Tim Carthon’s next six (6) SBI Workshops™ is being presented by Columbus-based event partner BLACK CENTRAL™ and is scheduled for Saturday, February 20, 2016, from 9am-4pm EST at the H.U.B. Community Development Corporation on 1336 E. Main Street in Columbus, OH (43205).

When we build a bridge to one another and dedicate our lives to the uplift(ing) of our people, then the dye is set for us to have and maintain true economic freedom,” says Asad Z. Shabazz, President and Founder of the H.U.B. Community Development Corporation.

The remaining five (5) events are tentatively scheduled to be held in Akron, Dayton, Cincinnati, Springfield, and Canton.  You can see up-to-date event information, enter his next $100 event giveaway contest, book Tim Carthon to speak at your next event, and register for his upcoming Columbus SBI Workshop™ now at SBIWorkshop.com.

    Bloggers Wanted - 1000

CLEVELAND, OH – January 20, 2016 – The Greek All-Star™ Awards™ today announced the launching of its Contributing Writers Guild.  The GASA Contributing Writers Guild is a group of individual, independent writers who are members of eligible Greek-letter organizations from around the world.  The CWG is designed to put a spotlight on unseen, passionate writers, with that passion being used to help educate the public on important local, national, and international subject matters, no matter how big to some or small to others those subject matters may be.

There are a multitude of amazing, independent writers out there whose works aren’t able to be appreciated by the viewing public simply because of audience reach,” says Tim Carthon, National Greek All-Star™ Awards™ Executive Director, “With our new Contributing Writers Guild, we are now able to help writers who are members of eligible Greek-letter organizations expand their audience using our extended Greek-Life network as their new starting point.  After which, it’s off to the reader races for them.  New content for us plus new readers for them equal a win for us both, and a win for the viewing public.”

CWG Members’ writings will be submitted and featured on GreekAllStars.com weekly.  The first five (5) CWG Members have already been approved, two (2) of which have submitted their first pieces to be featured this week: Anthony B. Mitchell and Tavon Harris, both proud members of the first historically African-American social Greek-letter organization Alpha Phi Alpha® Fraternity, Inc.

To become a National Greek All-Star™ Awards™ Contributing Writer, applicants must fit both a specific Greek-letter organization membership and writing skills criteria.  If you currently have a blog and are interested in becoming a member of the GASA Contributing Writers Guild, you can APPLY HERE.

CLEVELAND, OH – December 28, 2015 – The Greek All-Star™ Awards™ today announced its launch of the 2016 Greek-Life Calendar Contest.  The contest allows eligible Greek-letter organization members to enter formal photos of both themselves individually and of them with a group of their fellow Greek-letter organization members for possible selection as Calendar Models for the Official 2016 National Greek Awards™ Greek-Life Calendar.

The launch of this Greek-Life Calendar Contest today serves several purposes, one of the primary ones being to help shed a more positive light on Greek-letter organization members and the Greek-Life community as a whole,” said Tim Carthon, GASA Executive Director and a member of two Greek-letter organizations, “With the negative hits Greek-Life has taken in recent years, we’re attempting to find new ways to be a sea of positivity to that pool of negativity.  On the surface, this calendar just looks like a great product.  However, underneath the surface, it’s programming positive images into the minds of individuals who don’t yet fully understand the importance of Greek-Life and what it positively does for communities worldwide.

This isn’t the first time Carthon and his company have attempted to positively change a community and the perception many have of it.  In September, he hosted his first SBI Workshop™; a business infrastructure workshop specifically designed to help aspiring inner-city entrepreneurs by guiding them from the concept to development stage of their startup business, right within the workshop.  He negotiated a title sponsorship from Fiverr® International; an online marketplace that offers creative and professional services starting at $5, and is currently in talks with them to potentially expand his exclusive startup business infrastructure workshop through a long-term sponsorship contract.

GASA 2016 Greek-Life Calendar Contest entries can be submitted online through the official #GreekLifeCalendarContest page (GreekAllStarContests.com) or to the official email address (Contests@GreekAllStars.com).  You can see detailed photo submission instructions and contest rules now at GreekAllStarContests.com.
