CLEVELAND, OH – November 09, 2009 – The All-Star Greek Step Showcase™ announces that Tim Carthon, Showcase Executive Director and Multi-Award-Winning Step Show Choreographer, is in negotiations regarding his upcoming USA-UK joint arts-education project for children entitled, “Stepping With the UK Youth.”  National Showcase Sponsor, Premier Budgeting International™, is working closely with the U.K. representative Annika Reid to finalize the USA-UK connection.

This project will physically introduce the African-boot-dance-oriented art form, currently known as “stepping”, to the United Kingdom.  Mr. Carthon will be training hand-picked students, based on academics and other criteria, to be taught by him, in person, many generally unknown aspects of Greek fraternity and sorority stepping.

Stepping is something that was created by members of Greek-lettered organizations here in America.  From what I was told, there are no Greek-lettered organizations in the UK, so stepping is not something that is commonly practiced there, if practiced at all,” said Mr. Carthon, “So, if an art form is going to be introduced to a society, I feel that it should be introduced by a master of that art form.”

On the UK’s side, Annika Reid, a producer at Radio Cardiff and PBI’s new International Liaison, heads the USA-UK arts-education collaboration development.

We are looking forward to receiving Mr Carthon in Wales (U.K) and having him introduce to us Stepping. This is something that to my knowledge has never been brought over to Wales and we are extremely excited as to the avenues that will be opened for many young children by teaching them through the medium of stepping,” said Ms. Reid.

She continued, “We not only give them the opportunity to learn a part of African American history, but we give ethnic minorities, and African British children an opportunity to embrace a part of history that has not yet been taught to them as it has somehow been lost in transition….Tim Carthon who is an an accomplished teacher and stepping master we believe will deliver and cater the latter to our children, breaking many barriers still present in Wales…”

DAYTON, OH – February 24, 2008 – The 2008 Greek All-Stars made last nights performance only describable by one word: Sensational. The taste of African-oriented stepping and urban music, with Jazz and Classical, Hip-Hop and Crunk, mixed with fashion and dancing, left attendees with a full stomach and a sense of much-appreciated satisfaction.

Showcase Executive Director Tim Carthon began the All-Star-studded night with a moment of silence for a Dayton, OH native named Meshawn Brown, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha® Fraternity, Inc., Delta Xi Chapter at Central State University and a 2008 Greek All-Star Selectee.  He was tragically killed in a car accident on December 04, 2007. His mother received his Greek All-Star Selectee Certification, along with a letter of condolences from Showcase Executive Director Tim Carthon.

When the curtains finally arose, it was pure audience pandemonium. Performing this year were Alpha Phi Alpha® Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta® Sorority, Inc.Phi Beta Sigma® Fraternity, Inc., Tau Beta Sigma® National Honorary Band Sorority, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta® Sorority, Inc., and Sigma Gamma Rho® Sorority, Inc.  Participatory Greek organizations, but non-performing ones, were Sigma Gamma Psi Christian Fraternity, Gamma Beta Psi Christian Sorority, and Mu Phi Epsilon® Professional Music Fraternity, Inc.

Later that evening, Mr. Carthon revealed the “Meshawn Brown Scholarship,” a $500-$1,000 college scholarship designed to assist one student in securing an opportunity for higher education. The first ever recipient of the M.B. College Scholarship was a soft-spoken, shy, teenage Sophomore named Schronda Robinson from Dayton, OH.

On stage together for a great and positive cause, this All-Star-studded Greek Step Showcase awarded these “Greeks” for excellence in academics, community service, organization involvment, and positive campus and Showcase impact. However, there is one Special Award that only one individual Greek All-Star can receive; The highest award within the All-Star Greek Step Showcase: The MVG Award, The Most Valuable Greek. This year, there were two new Special Awards introduced: The MVO, The Most Valuable Organization, and the MVP, the Most Valuable Personnel.

This year’s MVP Awards Recipient was Micah Momient, the Showcase Music Director and a member of Mu Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Inc. The 2008 MVO Award was earned by Tau Beta Sigma N.H.B.S., Inc. And the most coveted of the Showcase Awards, the NVG Award, was, for the first time, a tie! The Co-MVGs were Theodore “Teddy” Block, Jr., the 2006 MVG and 2-time Greek All-Star, and Tamiesha Hurns, a 1st-time Greek All-Star.

After the Awards Ceremony and more All-Star rhythmic music to our ears, the Showcase capped off a wondrous night of musical, achievement , cultural, and rhythmic celebration with a guest performance by Alpha Phi Alpha® Fraternity, Inc., Delta Xi Chapter‘s renowned Step Team, led by “Golden ‘V'” Carl “Carlito” Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert was trained in step show choreography by Showcase Executive Director and legendary Step Master Tim Carthon. An encore performance plans to include Kappa Kappa Psi N.H.B.F., Inc.

DAYTON, OH – February 14, 2008 – The 2008 Greek All-Stars™ geared up for a much anticipated monster Showcase performance later this month with a few High School tune-up exhibition performances.

Working with the schools’ Administration and Counselors, Tim Carthon’s Greeks United! All-Star Greek Step Showcase® brought its energetic presence and thunderous positivity to the stages of two well-known Dayton High Schools: Paul Laurence Dunbar and Stivers School for the Arts. The exhibitions were designed in part to show a large portion of positive fraternity and sorority life on university campuses.

I just thank the Principals of both schools, along with Ms. Clay from Dunbar and Mr. Asadorian from Stivers, for understanding what we are trying to do for these young people and letting us do it, and do it well,” said Tim Carthon, PBI President, Executive Director of the Greeks United! All-Star Greek Step Showcase®, and renowned veteran Step Master, “Lord knows there’s enough influence out there for NOT going to college. We just do our best to be that negative influence’s positive Nemesis.”

With the completion of this past week’s community service performances to raise awareness of the need for a continued push toward academic excellence in urban communities, the 2008 Greek All-Stars had post-performance pictures and talks with students. They spoke with them about the importance of community service within their respective Greek organizations and how to have fun during higher education, without compromising the sanctity and seriousness of their collegiate opportunities.

These Showcase preliminary performances were also in preparation for the upcoming 2nd Annual Greeks United! All-Star Greek Step Showcase®, scheduled for Saturday,February 23, 2008 at the Dayton Masonic Temple Auditorium in Dayton, OH . Doors will be open for seating at 6:30pm.

WILBERFORCE, OH – January 28, 2008 – The 2008 Greeks United! All-Star Greek Step Showcase® announces that it has scheduled two preliminary community service performances for underprivileged urban community students.

Both exhibition performances will be held in Dayton, OH and are tentatively scheduled for early next month.  One performance is scheduled for February 06, 2008 at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and the other for February 07, 2008 at Stivers School for the Arts. The performances are designed in part to show a large portion of positive fraternity and sorority life on university campuses through organization commitment, superb time utilization, and community service dedication.

If we want high school students to come to college, then we have to give them new roll models; individuals who they see as being able to enjoy themselves, yet simultaneously taking full advantage of their educational opportunities,” said Tim Carthon, PBI President, Executive Director of the Greeks United! All-Star Greek Step Showcase®, and renowned veteran Step Master, “Many times students in urban communities are made fun of for wanting to be smart and get smarter, which is why they choose more negative influences as roll models, be they people or lifestyles. What the Greeks United! All-Star Greek Step Showcase® does is show these same students that they can not only be smart and be in the ‘in-crowd,’ but they can actually lead that crowd due to the same intelligence of which those others have made fun. That’s the best way to have the last laugh: while smiling all the way to the educational bank.”

The upcoming Showcase preliminary exhibition performances are in preparation for the 2nd Annual Greeks United! All-Star Greek Step Showcase®, scheduled for Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Dayton Masonic Temple Auditorium in Dayton, OH . Seating begins at 6:30pm.

The Event, which featured Greek and non-Greek organization affiliated participants, drew a crowd of over 800 individuals ranging from 18-50 years of age.  Several attendees claimed that the event was something that they had not seen the likes of at the university for many years.

The “African Spirits” Dancers directed by Cynthia Harold, a Central State University Alumnus, the Showcase Models, the Showcase Hip-Hop Dancers, and the Greek Organization Personnel and All-Star Performers came together to put on a fabulous show.  “Everyone kept telling me that they had a great time at the event.  That truly made all of the hard work (over this past 8 weeks) well worth it,” said Tim Carthon, Executive Director of the Showcase.

Mr. Carthon plans (over the next 3-4 years) to take the Showcase to different universities, eventually making it the National Greeks United! All-Star Greek Step Showcase® featuring the best individual Greek Organization Performers from all over the United States.
